Rambo Marking His Human!

And you think YOU have problems?? How about being your cat’s peeing target?!

I am having a problem with my male Bengal, Rambo, who is now going on 2 years old. He seems to be marking me, his Mom, as his territory. He will jump up on the bed next to me and start to pee right by me. It is periodic, but definitely planned. Once it happened right after I had given him tons of affectionate pets — so maybe that excited him in some way. Sometimes he will try to mark my husband’s leg as well.

The first instance that I noticed an urination problem was when he was about a year old. I was packing for a business trip and Rambo peed on my jacket that I had placed in my suitcase. I decided that was his way of trying to tell me not to leave him. We also have a half-sister to Rambo — she is 6 months younger than Rambo and they get along well. I don’t think multiple pets are the problem here.

Any suggestions out there as to what I should do — other than to spray myself with this pheromone stuff?

Thanks for any help from Mary & Rambo

Wow! Peeing right on you! That is pretty intense and pretty darned weird! I don’t think I’ve heard of that one before! Sometimes, cats are attached to one of their owners and this guy seems to be attached to both of you. He does seem to be marking you as his own. Using a synthetic pheromone like Feliway on yourself is not going to curb this outrageous activity! I agree with you that this is definitely emotionally based so my best advice would be to try a couple of the homeopathic solutions from a company called Spirit Essence – these are based on Bach flower remedies and formulated to help with cats (and dogs) emotional responses. You will put a few drops in his food and a rub a few drops of the other on his ears and paw pads. Go to my website for the link to Spirit Essences (and a listener discount!) but I’d recommend “Safe Space” in his food and “Separation Anxiety” or “Stress stopper” to put on him several times a day. I recently tried Spirit Essences on my two more neurotic dogs and the transformation was mind-boggling. They say to expect to see a shift in attitude in about 10 days, but I saw it in one! Please let me know how it works.
