It was a really emotional night on CAT CHAT® — a breed rescuer got a surprise $1,000 donation of food (i.e., Dinner Party and treats) from HALO — which I had no idea about! On an impulse I had asked Mary to call into the show. She runs a German Wire-haired Pointer rescue in Olathe Kansas (www.GWPRescue.com) and we had become pen pals.  I wanted her to explain what breed rescuers do and what happens to breeding dogs in puppy mills — she had written me about the emaciated, past-starvation dogs that have come in from puppy mills and abuse situations and how she needs to restore their health with good nutrition. I had gotten in touch with the Vice President, Marketing Communications of HALO Purely for Pets (one of my website sponsors and the company that makes the kibble my dogs eat) and asked if there was any discount for rescues and shelters to get HALO. Our dogs come from extreme circumstances, and as I said seven out of ten come into our care in horrific condition. We will be looking at the same type of situation with the puppy mill dogs we are expecting from South Dakota as we did with the puppy mill babies in Missouri three months ago. We are so excited to have this opportunity to give our puppies/dogs a good diet, and build up their suppressed immune systems.

I will get the food ordered tomorrow… we certainly cannot tell you how this will help us in the coming days. There are no words to express what we are going into. When we went to the puppy mill bust in Missouri in May, I hyperventilated at the sight and smell which made me physically ill. The mothers and babies were locked in a complete darkness in a grain silo where they kept them. Some were so thin their systems could not ingest or digest food. But having the HALO donation will be one less stress for us to deal with, and we will distribute the food between foster homes.

I am requesting the bookplate for The Cat Bible and The Dog Bible. I ordered The Dog Bible for my ex husband, since he has about 3 pugs and doesn’t believe me when I tell him about the yearly shots and what food to feed them. Two of his pugs are so obese that their back legs drop out from under them. He is planning on getting joint surgery for them, instead of giving them a proper diet and exercise. He is a truck driver and it’s hard for them to exercise. His pugs are Tank, Dozer and Leiah

I also ordered The Cat Bible for my girl friend who has a cat that looks like he ate a basketball. She also doesn’t believe me about the food issues and declawing her cats… how horrendous. She has 3 other cats that look fine, but need to be informed about the inoculations and good food. Her cats are named, Sneakers, Frodo (he is the basketball), Astro and Starship.

I am hoping that these books will get my point across without them getting mad at me. I tend to be a bit of a ranter when it comes to these issues.

You have an awesome show on Sirius radio! Thank you, thank you! I learn so much. I have 2 cats, one yellow tabby that is 14+ and a part Persian all white that is about 6. I buy the canned Blue Spa Select – I also have the kibble that I wet and make soft for my older kitty. I know how you feel about kibble and dry food…

My question is, if I feed them only the canned Mature Blue Spa cat food – is this good stuff? Just wondered, I know the Weruva is best, better, best but if I have to go with the Blue, do you approve?

Your appreciation means a great deal — and even more to know that you have taken to heart my advice against feeding kitty crack and are feeding wet food exclusively. But you shouldn’t need to ask me whether one brand is good. By looking at the ingredients you should be able to tell for yourself! That’s what The Cat Bible is all about: giving you the tools to make good decisions on your own. I looked up the Blue Spa food for you and it’s dandy. But you cannot feed one brand only. Your cat may get hooked on that! And variety of ingredients is important for overall nutritional balance. Get a couple of cans of Weruva for their birthdays!
