Fish In A Can?
I recently purchased your book The Cat Bible. I love your book, by far the best kitty book I have ever read!!!
I recently adopted two brother kitties from the SPCA here in Northern Virginia. They are 10 months old and they have always been on a dry food diet, I am currently transforming them to a wet diet exclusively. My little one- Theodore is a food connoisseur-- he loves to try everything... but the bigger one, Simon-- is finicky as can be and only likes Salmon or Tuna. Your book says that an all fish diet can cause problems. I saw in your book that you have some recipes for homemade food. Can you please forward me some high protein recipes that maybe my finicky one will like that is also good for him?
Also, my kitties don't like the "loaf" type wet food, they like the chunky stuff. Do you have a brand that you would recommend? Right now they are eating ProPlan wet food-- Tuna entree and Salmon and Rice. Also they love the Whiskas packets of Sardine and Mackerel, Tuna and Ocean White fish, Tuna entree. The kibble that I do offer them, but not free feed, is: Nutro Max, the roasted chicken flavor.
P.S. I tried tonight one of the tricks in your book. Sprinkling some Bonito Tuna Flakes on the wet food, that seemed to work well tonight... who knows if it will work again.
Thank you,
Alicia
Hi Alicia,
Thanks so very much for your kind words about THE CAT BIBLE - it warms my heart to know it is "ringing the bell" for you!
Since there are new cat food flavors coming out all the time, my best advice on individual products would be to take the advice in the book about how to read a label - once you can do that you will have the independence to make your own decisions anywhere you go.
I'd also like to recommend that you spend some time on my website www.TracieHotchner.com where there are tons of email Q&A's on THE CAT BIBLE portion of the site about this topic and many others - lots of new information every day. Also, there is a downloadable printable pdf file that is one page of all the good kinds of cat food that you can take with you. In those Q&A's you'll also see that I now call dry food "kitty crack" because it has been discovered it is addictive to cats - ANY dry food - and can do them tremendous harm. So please read the Q&A's about "thinking outside the bag" and ridding your house completely of kibble.
I'd also like to send you an autographed bookplate for your Bible inscribed to your kitties - if you send me your mailing address I'll send the bookplate with a few surprises - especially a great raw food that arrives frozen. After writing the book I discovered that homemade diets are really tricky because they will be lacking on essential nutrients that have to be added to a cat's diet so I prefer to recommend professionally prepared "homemade" good. So if you'd like to receive those, please send me your address.
Best,
Tracie
