Cat Foods (Wet)

I read your recommendation on what kinds of wet food are best for cats. I’ve recently switched my cat from dry food (Science Diet) to wet after the vet found he had an inflamed pancreas and recommended switching to Diabetes Management (Purina). But I’m wondering if there’s a healthier food, perhaps from one of the companies you recommended, although at the store I didn’t find that any of these companies made their food in Diabetes Formula. Do you have any suggestions, or any other suggestions for taking the best care of pancreatitis in cats? Thanks.

From: Jill, in New York, New York

Dear Jill,

There are a number of really superb canned foods for cats, and a listing of just a few of them is on my website www.catchatradio.com, the site that supports my new radio program CAT CHAT, which will air every Wednesday night, live, for one hour, with call-ins! It’s on Sirius Radio, Channel 112, on Martha Stewart Living Radio.

What I find confusing is why your vet would put a cat with pancreatitis (a medical problem that is devilishly hard to diagnose for sure) on a diabetes diet. It makes no obvious sense, so I’d love to know his thinking behind that advice. The only dietary change I’m aware of with pancreatitis is to lower the fat content of food, although it’s not even proven as a reliable “fix.”

Please, get back in touch, and good luck with your kitty!
