Litter Box Haute Couture

I was wondering if anyone has a creative way to hide a litter box in your home. I live in a smaller two-bedroom condo, and am always trying to find a way to hide the litter box when guests come over, or just for everyday. Thanks.

From: Anne, in Evanston, Illinois, via Martha Stewart Radio

Dear Anne,

That’s a great question, and one for which I have a semi-canine solution: get one of the upscale, furniture-quality crate “holders,” and use it as a litter box holder.

Go into one of the fancier pet stores that sell furnishings and equipment for dogs. They now have wood-framed cubes that either already enclose a wire mesh dog crate, or are sized to fit one. They have a wooden top and can be used like a side table or a place to put flowers, knick-knacks, a lamp, etc. You could put your cat’s litter box inside one of these, close the door when company comes, and they won’t even notice the pan inside it on the bottom.

Depending on your décor, if you like funky/modern/high tech/high style, at some of these same high-end dog stores you will find a crate called a Bow House, which is a round metal table/dog crate with a rounded sliding door, and holes punched in the sides decoratively, but functionally. You could keep the litter box there, with the door open all the time -- except when company’s coming.

Hope this helps!
