Wild Salmon Oil For Skin
I read "The Cat Bible," and changed my cat's food from dry to wet about 2 months ago. She's been eating "Wellness" wet food. Recently, she started itching. The vet said it looks like dry skin, and told us to put fish oil in her food to help moisturize her skin. Well, she doesn't like it, and won't eat her food if we put it in it. Is there a brand of food that you recommend that has more omega-3 oils in it? Or, do you have any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Christy
Hi Christy,
Thanks so much for buying my book - but even more so thanks for trusting my advice and getting your cat onto wet food.
I spoke to Lynette at Feline Outreach www.felineoutreach.org is a great resource - you should check it out! - and her reply was:
I recommend wild salmon oil - not just any fish oil. (For example, cod liver oil is very high in vitamins A & D, and it's possible to overdose those vitamins.) There may be some cats that don't like it, but it's the most appropriate, in my opinion. She could also try the Wellness canned flavors without fish in them, in case it's an allergy to fish.
So see whether the wild salmon oil pleases her more. I feed it and i get mine in a nice big pump bottle reasonably priced at KV Vet Supply (www.KVVET.com) Make sure you get the wild version, not farmed, which has pollutants in it.
Also, if you'd like an autographed bookplate for THE CAT BIBLE just send me your mailing address and your cat's name - and 'll send you some interesting samples, too.
Good luck with the salmon oil!
Best,
Tracie
