Cat Chat's® Official Oncologist

I am really honored to welcome the world renowned veterinary oncologist Dr. Alice Villalobos, DVM as Our Official Cancer Specialist. She is not just brilliant in her diagnosis and treatment of cancer in dogs and cats, but she is an award-winning humanitarian who honors the human-animal bond in her life and in her work in a way that is an inspiration to everyone.

Dr. Alice Drives NASCAR With Pets Best

We all got to get behind the wheel of Nascars at the Las Vegas speedway. We were "Racing to Save Pets" courtesy of Pets Best insurance, which sponsors Brett Thompson's Nascar to raise awareness of pets in the shelters for adoption. And guess who won the lady's division?? The official cancer doctor of both shows, Dr. Alice!! (Click photos below to see larger versions in new window.)

Neo with Octopus

When Tracie was recently in Las Vegas at the Western Veterinary Conference along with Dr. Alice Villalobos, the owner of Kong toys gave Tracie this swell pink octopus Kong (pink being Tracie's signature color). Somehow the huge pink toy wound up in Dr. Alice's bag and made its way home to Southern California where her beloved Olde English Bulldog, Neo, could not be parted with it. From the look on his face, would you want to ask for it back??"

Canine and Feline Geriatric OncologyTo those who have heard me interview Dr. Alice on the show, you know what I am talking about. You also heard me talk about her very readable textbook with the serious title: Canine and Feline Geriatric Oncology: Honoring the Human-Animal Bond. (in simple language, it means cancer in old dog and cats and what that means for us). Yes, it's a textbook for vets but it's also accessible to the rest of us who want to understand more about what causes cancer, how to catch it in the early stages, what treatment options are available, and how to deal with some of the emotions it brings up for us when we get a cancer diagnosis in our four-legged family members.

There's a link here to the book and the gracious offer by Dr. Alice to extend her discount to all CAT CHAT™ and DOG TALK® followers.

This article generated a lot of interest from veterinarians and support staff and pet lovers about setting up Pawspice care. The January 2007 VPN issue will feature an article that answers many of the questions sent to me…but 1200 words is not enough!

There is so much more about Pawspice in my new book!
