Can’t Wait Until The Dog Bible Arrives (Food Advice)

I’m sorry to bother you because I am sure that this information is in your book.  I have ordered The Dog Bible but I just can’t wait till I get it.  I have a Pit bull and 2 Chihuahuas.  Currently I am feeding the 2 Chihuahuas Eukanuba dry and canned foods.  After listening to The Dog Talk Radio (via pod cast), I have discovered that I have been making a mistake.  I am planning on switching them over to Innova dry and canned food.  The Pit bull currently eats California Natural (we picked him up from previous owner who was feeding him this) and it appears to be a healthy food for him so we are continuing with that.  We also add a couple of slices of Natural Balance Dog Food Roll into his food (it seems to help him finish it because he was previously not eating very much of his dry food).  I have stopped feeding them Greenies and am now feeding them some dog biscuits from Innova.  I wanted to get your thoughts about the 3 dogs’ diets and see if there is anything that we should change.  Thank you so much for your time and I wait patiently for your response.

Thank you,
Ashley

Dear Ashley,

It is no bother at all to give you some early advice (and thanks for buying the book!), even though my own dogs are staring dagger eyes at me for writing this instead of preparing their breakfast!

I suggest you try a nice mixed diet similar to what I do - it really makes a difference in long-range health

1) Kibble makes a great side dish like rice, potatoes or pasta but think of it as only about 1/3 of their food

2) You want a quality UNPROCESSED meat or protein as the main ingredient - that means more of that roll, or any fish/meat/chicken from your table or eggs, cottage cheese etc. - make it different all the time - or any quality can (chi-chi’s obviously need tiny portions of all this - the Pit can go with 1/2 can or equivalent at both meals)

3) Go to the link on my website for The Honest Kitchen ins an Diego and get them to send you a box of their amazing dehydrated raw food (many different formulas) that you add a scoop of and rehydrate with warm water before feeding - has everything in it and great good health- costly, but you only use a bit at each meal

4) Cooked vegetables, any kind except gassy ones, for 1/3 of the meal - Dog Bible and other Q&A's on the website explains that

5) Start adding Platinum Performance (right near you in N. Calif. - joint supplement, immune system booster to every meal, too - prevents and treats arthritis but also helps with overall health

6) Any omega 3 oil is great for skin/coat – oil from WILD salmon is best (NOT the Derma caps I bought from the vet and which turn out to be an inferior kind of oil.)

Okay, I must dash, my dogs are looking cranky and I must go

Once your The Dog Bible comes, feel free to write with any other questions - and send me your mailing address and I will send you an autographed bookplate for the book along with some surprises!

Also, if you can get up early some Saturday (8 AM your time) you can listen live to the show at www.WLIU.org and even call in to 800-394-8830 and we'll talk together about this

Best,
Tracie
